"Pietro Barilla, the great entrepreneur from Parma, has always loved culture, and in particular art. Since the post-war years, Pietro Barilla's support for Parmesan cultural life has been relevant, alongside characters such as Attilio Bertolucci, Pietro Bianchi, Erberto Carboni, Carlo Mattioli, Roberto Tassi.

He used Barilla the factory as an art gallery, the offices and the lawn surrounding the Pedrignano branch have been embellished over the years with sculptures, such as the monument "Cornfields", by Pietro Cascella, placed in 1982 to commemorate the 100 years of work of the Enterprise.

Those who walk through the offices today can enjoy a permanent exhibition consisting of over 300 works, personally selected by Pietro Barilla, that embrace the history of twentieth century art, touching currents and artistic movements from Divisionism to Surrealism, integrating painting and sculpture into mix of great intensity.

"And think that I am not a collector - Pietro was able to affirm in an interview - I have always looked for works of art because I felt attracted, because I understood that they contained a meaning and a message not only for me, but also for the others, and I had to share it ”.
The choice of a work of art represented for Pietro not only a profound joy, but also the opportunity for new relationships, often destined to turn into lasting friendships capable of leaving "traces" even in the fabric of the collection.
Artists such as Burri, Cascella, Guttuso, Maccari, Manzù, Marini, Mattioli, Morandi, Morlotti, Pomodoro, Vangi, are represented with a large number of works distributed over time and able to summarize the artistic parable.

Endowed with a happy predisposition for beauty, Pietro Barilla has created over the years an orderly tale of art, also helped by his friend and Parmesan critic Roberto Tassi (1921-1996), curator of the exhibition he wanted to organize at the Magnani Rocca Foundation in April 1993 on the occasion of its eighty years.

Among the many works in the collection there are paintings by Chagall, De Chirico, Ernst, Picasso, Sutherland and sculptures by Moore, Rodin and other great masters of modern art.
In this review, commissioned by the Municipal Administration of Parma and the Barilla family, twelve of Pietro's most loved works will be on display, on a monthly basis, at the Stuard Art Gallery, to tell, through the brush of great Masters, the passion of a lifetime , lived in the name of excellence. "
