Michael Kenna is unanimously recognized as one of the greatest contemporary landscape photographers. His reading of what is presented to our eyes - both the legacy of a time that seems to have stopped from the dawn of the world and the outcome of human intervention - is marked by a spasmodic attention to detail and cosmic breath that orders in secret geometries and that everything wraps, inside the silence and solitude. Kenna has conducted photographic campaigns all over the continents, with particular reference, in recent decades, to the Far East, experiences in the field that have originated over seventy books. The survey he conducted on the Po began during a couple of trips to Italy, in 2006-2007, in preparation for his retrospective exhibition in 2010 in Reggio Emilia, and continued steadily until 2019, with explorations along the entire course of the Great River, from the spring to the mouth; it is now presented in preview at the Palazzo Ducale in Colorno and published in its entirety (102 images) in a monographic volume that accompanies the exhibition.

MICHAEL KENNA was born in 1953 in Widnes, in the English county of Chesire. Since his adolescence his passion for the arts led him to study painting and photography, first at the art school in Banbury, then at the College of Printing in London, where he began to work as a photographer and artist. However, the most relevant experience for his training as a photographer comes when he moved to San Francisco in 1977 - but he has been living in Seattle for years now - where he started working as a printer for photographer Ruth Bernhard, Kenna is a master in the darkroom, where he personally develops the films for analogue photography that he still uses.
