Gian Paolo Montali

Gian Paolo Montali started playing volley in Parma’s team, at that time sponsored by Santal, winning four youth championships before becoming its coach, taking the place of famous Polish coach Skiba.He took over the Maxicono team for four seasons from 1986 to 1990, winning an Italian championship, a World clubs championship, three Coppa delle Coppe, two Coppa Italia and a Grande Slam in 1990. Montali’s coaching tenure also include Schio and Sisley Treviso. In Summer 1996 he moved to Athens as the coach of Olympiakos Piro, taking home the Cup of Greece and winning a championship.
He moved then on to Rome, leading the Piaggio team to the victory of an Italian championship before becoming the coach of Italy’s national team, winner in 2003 of the European championship in Berlin and in Rome in 2005.
