Friday 21 May, 4 pm. Parma celebrates the opening of places of culture, starting with two exceptional events: the Camera di San Paolo, frescoed by Correggio, and the exhibition Umberto Eco, Franco Maria Ricci. LABYRINTHS. History of a sign
Parma Italian Capital of Culture 2021 celebrates the opening of places of culture: finally, after the long and difficult months of closures imposed by the health emergency, the city celebrates the launch of its renewed program of initiatives, in a crescendo of openings and activities, scattered between the city and the territory (www.parma2020.it), from the Apennines to the Po.
Museums, theaters, libraries, galleries, cinemas: the centers of culture return to feed the thoughts and imagination of citizens, enthusiasts and tourists. Parma comes alive with events, exhibitions, shows, concerts, reviews: it ranges from the statues of the Months and Seasons by Benedetto Antelami to "Abecedario d’artista", dedicated to young artists from Emilia-Romagna at the Governor's Palace; from the Porcelains of the Dukes of Parma at the Royal Palace of Colorno to the Florilegium installation; by Design! Objects, processes, experiences - Through Time, which reveals the immense heritage of the archives of the CSAC (Study Center and Archive of Communication), to Modigliani. Works from the Musée de Grenoble at the Magnani Rocca Foundation; from Parma the city of perfume to the review The triumph of Time and Disillusion at the scenographic Abbey of San Giovanni Evangelista.
To mark the celebration for the presentation of the program, an official ceremony, also broadcast in live-streaming on the social networks of Parma Capitale, on Friday 21 May at 4 pm, at the monastic complex of San Paolo, in the presence of Elly Schlein, Vice President of the Emilia-Romagna region; Massimo Osanna, General Director of Museums of the Ministry of Culture; Federico Pizzarotti, Mayor of Parma; Diego Rossi, President of the Province of Parma; Simone Verde, Director of the Monumental Complex of the Pilotta; Annalisa Sassi, President of the Parma Industrialists' Union; Alessandro Chiesi, President of “Parma, Io ci sto!”. Following, a lectio brevis by the art historian Arturo Carlo Quintavalle.
There are two symbolic events of the new beginning of Parma Capitale.
The stunning Camera di San Paolo, also known as the Camera della Badessa, frescoed by Correggio, whose management is now entrusted to the Municipality of Parma, is once again open to visitors for citizens and tourists. It is one of the lesser known jewels of the Italian sixteenth century: its new opening, in the year in which Parma is the Capital of Culture, acquires a special value and becomes the emblem of a new renaissance, which cannot ignore culture.
Another exceptional moment in the calendar of the capital and a virtuous example of the synergy of the city with its territory, is the exhibition at the Labirinto della Masone Umberto Eco, Franco Maria Ricci. LABYRINTHS. Story of a sign, multimedia path open to the public from 22 May to 26 September 2021.
